Department for International Cooperation has been going since November 2002.

Department for International Cooperation operates on the following basis:
- Regulation of the Department for International Cooperation of St. Petersburg University of State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia
- Charter of St. Petersburg University of State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia.

In 2002-2003 basics for development of the international activity of the University have been put. Besides, during this period of work the basic directions of the international activity of university have been allocated. During its work, department in conjunction with other units of the University have organized about 30 international conferences and seminars.

The Department for International Cooperation constantly improves its activity in studying of the international experience in the field of fire safety and civil protection in order to transfer it to different departments of the University with the subsequent introduction of the information in educational process.

Scientific and practical activities of the Department

• Creation of conditions for scientific and technical cooperation of the St. Petersburg University of State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia with foreign states and the relevant international organizations.
• Propagation of the University at the international level, including exhibition activity, achievements of science and technology in the field of prevention and elimination of emergencies and fire-prevention protection.
• Perfection of educational activity with a glance of world experience in the field of civil defense, prevention and elimination of emergencies and fire safety, improvement of professional skill and retraining of officers of the St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service of EMERCOM of Russia.
• Assistance in training of foreign specialists on the University’s basis.

During its functioning the International Dept has made a great contribution to the development of scientific activities of the University.

Published about 40 methodological works, including: the guide for postgraduate students, manuals on general pedagogy, theory and methods of vocational education, the constitutional law of foreign countries, information law, criminal-executive law, the history of the state and law of foreign countries and other subjects.

In 2007 by agreement with the International Association of fire and rescue service (CTIF) the dictionary of fire-technical terms has been translated into Russian language.

International conferences held at the University are attracting a great interest of staff of fire and rescue services in Europe, USA and CIS countries. All in all international forums attended by over 300 foreign participants.

International cooperation is carried out in the following areas:

• Exchange of cadets and students to undergo training and internships.
• Variety of short trips and excursions.
• Short-term training of foreign students and specialists.
• Exchange of professors for lecturing.
• Joint scientific research.
• Holding International conferences and seminars.
• Implementation of joint publications, scientific, educational and methodological works.

February the 1st 2011with the purpose of improving and developing the International activity of the University has been decided to create a Center for organization and coordination of international activity.
